Katy ISD partners with Houston City College (formally Houston Community College) in offering dual credit courses for students who meet specific requirements and would like to earn college credit at the same time as earning high school credit. Once accepted as a dual credit student, students can enroll in face-to-face or virtual courses. If interested, please contact your child's counselor with any questions. Please be aware that becoming a dual credit student is a multi-step process and requires 1–3 weeks to complete. Enrollment for the following school year begins in February and ends in March.

Steps to Apply for Dual Credit

**If you are a returning dual credit student, you can skip to step 5. You do not have to complete another Dual Credit application.**

1. Choose the dual credit course(s) as part of your schedule when completing course selection in SchooLinks

2. Complete your ApplyTexas application by Friday, February 20th, 2026 for Summer and  Friday, March 20th, 2026 for Fall/Spring

   • Sign Up for HCC Application Help Sessions for help with completing the application process - don't wait until the last minute!

   • Apply for HCC as a student at www.ApplyTexas.org

     • Use your personal email address, not your school or iCloud email address

   • Complete both the profile and the application sections while choosing dual credit as your application type

3. Watch for an email from HCC with your student ID

   • Your new ID number will start with a "W"

   • OR You will receive a "P" number if you did not submit your social security number in your Apply Texas application. Don't lose your "P" number because you will need it to reset your password if you forget.

   • You need either ID number for your Dual Credit application

4. Follow the directions on the Dual Credit Residency Form 

   • The link to the form is located on below

5. Submit the completed Residency Form  

   • Returning students do not complete another packet

   • Returning students MUST complete the Google Form below

   • Applications for Summer 2026 are due Friday, Feb. 27th, 2026 @ 3pm

   • Applications for Fall/Spring 26-27 are due Friday, March 27th, 2026 @ 3pm

   • Submit all paperwork (hard copies) to the Counseling Office secretary

6. Save your confirmation email

   • You should receive your confirmation within a couple of minutes

7. Once your application is reviewed, you will be contacted if: 

   • There are any mistakes or missing information

   • You do not meet eligibility requirements

   • You need to take the TSIA exam for college readiness (see below)

TSIA

The TSI-A exam is no longer a requirement to apply for dual credit courses for the 2026-2027 school year. However, it is a good indicator of potential academic success in a dual credit course. Depending on the student and how many dual credit courses you plan to take, you may still need to take the TSIA exam.
