Late Work

Late Work Beliefs

Meeting deadlines is a skill that will prepare students for the real world and successful careers. These policies are not designed to hurt students, but to hold them accountable for completing quality work and handing work in on time. At Paetow High School, we encourage students to submit all given assignments by the due date to receive full credit, and when that is not possible, students will discuss options, such as mandatory tutorials, to assist them in completing missed work. *Note for all grades: In-class assigned work which is due at the end of class will earn a zero if not submitted. Incomplete classwork will be graded as directed by content teams.

Other Grades

Other grades are not eligible for a late work penalty and will not be accepted after the beginning of the period in which they are due.

Minor Grades

• 1 day late-the highest grade the student can receive on the assignment is a 75.
• 2 days late-the highest grade the student can receive on the assignment is a 50.
• 3 or more days late- a zero may be given for the assignment.

Major Grades

Tests: Follow a re-test/test correction policy.

Essays & Projects

Essays: Because major essays are often revised, edited, and re-worked during class in the days after the due date, arrangements will be made for a tutorial and/or digital submission to occur by the following day if an essay is not submitted on time.

Projects: Checkpoints for completion should be built into the rubric for each project so that teachers are aware of student progress. Arrangements will be made for a tutorial and/or digital submission to occur by the following day if a project is not submitted on time.

Parent contact will be made, as this is a major grade.

Teachers should consider contacting a campus mentor/coach as well.

Extended Absences

Students cannot work on or submit assignments/assessments for any reason until they have physically returned to the classroom.

Until students return, input an incomplete “I” for any 6 weeks grade.

Give all students authentic grades. Do not provide any “Floor Grades” or inflated grades that do not reflect their attendance and mastery of the curriculum.
