Homework

Homework Expectations

  • Homework should be a meaningful experience, designed to develop independent work habits that will translate into effective soft skills in our students’ future endeavors.
  • It is essential that students learn to organize their work and budget their time, on both daily and long-range assignments.
  • Homework should provide a means of communication between the home and the school and an opportunity for parents to become involved in their child’s education.
  • Homework can, and/or should, do the following:
    • Reinforce and practice what students are currently learning.
    • Spiral back or fill in gaps from prior learning.
    • Prepare students for more in-depth learning in class.
    • Address areas of need based on pre-assessments.
    • Engage students in connections between content and life outside of school.
    • Extend critical and creative thinking.
  • Teachers are expected to regularly assign homework.
  • If using technology for homework, Canvas is the expected program.
  • Homework should be appropriately leveled, allowing students to complete the work with minimal support.
  • Students should be given an appropriate amount of time to complete homework. Assignments should be due within two school days. (Example: homework is assigned on Monday, it is due on Tuesday or Wednesday)
